DOG SHOWS

Results from recent 35th STDC Championship Show

Judge: Ms PAT SCALES (AUSTRALIA)

I was thrilled to be re invited to judge at the Singapore Toy Dog Club’s 35th Championship Show on Easter Sunday 23rd March 2008 having judged at its 14th Championship Show thirteen years ago March 1995.

I thank Dr Pauline Tan and her able Committee, Mr Nicon Chin and Mr Andy Lee and Members of the Club for their kind hospitality and friendship shown to my husband and me.

The show venue was well organized and I also thanked the kind sponsorship of the show Asia Pacific Pet Supplies, Pets Kampong, the Puppy Shop and Annie Pets Corner. I apologise for any name that I had inadvertently omitted.

I was very pleased with the quality of the dogs in the Show.  Many were good examples of their breed and particularly pleasing was the number of younger dogs and exhibitors that shows great promise for the future of the Club.

 The Show

As I have reported earlier, I was impressed with the quality of many of the exhibits.  I also appreciated the sportsmanship of the exhibitors.

I had short listed five breeds for my line up, the Chihuahua Long Coat, Chihuahua Smooth Coat, Maltese, Papillon and the Pomeranian.

Best in Show was finally decided between two outstanding exhibits.

My Best Exhibit in Show went to the Maltese JKC/S’pore Ch. Lovely Wing’s Sound Illusion FCI (Exhibit no.39).  This was a lovely sized dog with a correct silky coat and colour.  Head carriage and top line were very good and he moved impressively.  Excellent in presentation. I believe he still has a lot of winning ahead of him.

Reserve Best Exhibit in Show was awarded to the Pomeranian Pan Pan (Exhibit no.59).  He was a correctly sized dog of good balance with a good head, good ears and nice dark oval eyes. Correct textured coat A very appealing type of Pomeranian. Eye catching and a brisk mover.

The following comments relate to the Best and Runner Up Best of Breed in the other Toy breeds:

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (6 entries 4 abs)

Xcellence Chocolate King (Exhibit no.03) A very nice young dog with a good head and gentle expression.  Showed happily in the ring. Challenge Dog and Best of Breed.

The bitch winner Ch. Stever Maya Charisma had a better head but was not enthusiastic in ring presence lacking the happy disposition as required in the breed standard

Chihuahua Long Coat (10 entries 2 abs)

Am Ch. Quachita In The Mood. (Exhibit no.15) A correctly sized and well-proportioned bitch with a good head and well placed ears. She moved confidently and showed typical Chihuahua sauciness. I was impressed with her colour and condition. Challenge Bitch and Best of Breed.

Challenge Dog was Aust & S’pore Ch. Jinbillico Fernando (Exhibit no.09) An eight year old of very good breed type who truly enjoys showing himself off. CC and RBOB.

Chihuahua Smooth Coat (10 entries 4 Abs)

Ch. Vayacondios Dakota (Exhibit no 20) Well proportioned dog, lovely round eyes. Showed well. Sound in front and hindquarters. Challenge Dog and Best of Breed.

Challenge bitch and RBOB was exhibit no 22 Ch. Holehola Periwinkle At Levazor. Carry a little too much in condition. Showed with sauciness with dark round eyes. Well presented.

Chinese Crested Dog. ( 5 entries 1 abs)

Best of Breed was a very smart and attractive dog Aust & S’pore Ch. Mohawk Modern Day Poet At Frelouie. ( Exhibit no 28)  Right up to size, abundant crest and plume. Covers the ground well.

Runner up Best of Breed was the Bitch challenge Aust Ch. Mordorsa Blush Bunny At Frelouie. (Exhibit no 29) Good size bitch. Moved true in front and rear.

Italian Greyhound. ( 7 entries 6 abs)

Lalethea Wild Orchid (Exhibit no.32). One exhibit. Pretty outline, correct coat texture. Alert and worked her ears well. Is still young and has yet to fully develop. Challenge and Best of Breed.

Maltese ( 7 entries, 3 abs)

My BOB winner was the challenge dog JKC/S’pore Ch. Lovely Wing’s Sound Illusion FCI (Exhibit no.39).  This was a lovely sized dog with a correct silky coat, dark pigment and white colour.  Head carriage and topline were very good and he moved impressively.

Challenge bitch and Reserve Best of Breed was Kazuko Floss (Exhibit no.41), a petite female with correct texture and colour

Papillon (4 entries, 3 abs)

Ch. Sailoz Dream Diamond ( Exhibit no.49) A young dog which shows a lot of promise.  Good type for the breed with a good head and very good movement. Mobile ears which he used to his advantage. CC and Best of Breed.

Pekingese (5 entries, 1 abs)

Best of Breed and Challenge dog NZ Gr Ch/ S’pore Ch. Parkvon Master Of Passion          ( Exhibit no no.51) Beautifully prepared and put down. Tail carriage well over the back with a glorious abundant coat. Quite sound and in good condition but I would prefer him a shade smaller.

My bitch challenge was a puppy Sunyang Fortune Cookie. (Exhibit no 54). Showing the major characteristics of the breed.  Still a young exhibit. Another one who has yet to develop fully.

Pomeranian (6 entries, 1 abs)

Exhibit no 59 Pan Pan was my Challenge Dog and Best of Breed winner. A very well balanced Pom. Good shape, nice foxy outline. Lovely sized dog with a good head, good ears and very nice round eyes. Correct tail set and carriage which is unfortunately lacking in the breed these days. Good harsh coat. I would look forward to hearing his future show achievements.

In reserve place Gr.Ch. & Aust. Ch. Delrunda Emerald Dream (Exhibit no.58) Another veteran in good condition. Lovely compact, short-coupled bitch that moved well. CC and RBOB.

Yorkshire Terrier ( 7 entries, 1 abs)

Best of Breed was the Bitch Challenge winner Exhibit no 63 Chotlada Gust of Moral. Nice petite female, although young showed correct breed type. Perhaps I would prefer a richer color on her. Good reach of neck, good coat texture and level topline which is lacking in the breed these days. Easily pressed the dog for the Breed award.

Runner Best of Breed was the dog (exhibit no 60) Chotlada Fascination Rhythm. Good size dog, good texture coat and well presented. Preferred the hind action of the winner.

Toy Any Variety Not Separately Classified. (AVNSC) (1 entry 0 abs)

Best of Breed was the Bichon Frise (exhibit no 67) a sole entry. Well handled and presented.  Lovely soft corkscrew curls. Free moving with a level topline. Would prefer her pigment to be darker perhaps that would deepen with maturity.
